IIT sport facilities

First of all, The BOG! One might say that it's a kind of "La Cave" of IIT.

Well, we could say that because it's the place on which people used to meet each other, to drink a beer, have fun, enjoy the end of the week. But, it's bigger and there is some more pleasant surprises inside.

First, in the first room, there is a large array of videogames (Playstation, Wii, X-BOX 360, Guitar Hero III, ...), table tennis, pool... and then,

the miracle!.... a Bowling!!!

Well i would have never expected that, to have a bowling in the Campus.
So, it's not totally free, but until now, almost every week the Union Board (kind of "BDE" of IIT) organise free evenings in the BOG.

And, as an anecdote, for the first time i played there i broke records!!! my own record!
--> 173!!! OMG!
Unfortunately, the next games were not as successful as the first one...

Then, the Keating Hall, IIT sports center, kingdom of every "self-respecting" sportpeople!

The Keating Hall entrance, with its legends and IIT's trophys (not visible on this picture).

Indeed, the sport in the US is not a joke!!! American "live" the sport, and it's well known here that if you are a good at sport, you can easily be successful in your studies and manage to graduate without doing "real" studies.

To figure out what sport at IIT represents, have a look at illinois athletics website.

Among Keating Hall facilities, there are:

-Squash fields

-A huge Gymnasium, split in two parts (one official for Scarlet Hawks matches, but we can also use it, and another one, more "common" on which people used to play Badminton, Indoor soccer and Basketball)

The Scarlet Hawks is the official name of each IIT sport team. Apparently, IIT seems to excel in Volleyball, especially Women's Volleyball.

The famous Women's Volleyball Team (as i said sooner, the sport here is not a joke! ^^) :

-the Soccer field:

-the famous Gym room with its huge array of body-building devices.
Indeed,
you can do there every muscle-building exercises you want.

It is open almost all day long and it is totally free. you just have to show your ID Card.

-the swimming pool
and its diving boards:

-the IIT Hawks' Baseball Field

In direction to the beach next to the campus

We can see Chicago's skyline from the Beach next to the campus. We can go there walking 15min from the campus.
This beach is not that big, but it's good enough to freshen up especially during the hot season.

We can see below, the Lake Shore Drive, famous road which cross Chicago south to north and runs along the Lake, really beautiful and always busy!!

Here is IIT campus map:

The IIT campus' entrance :

The McCormick Tribune Campus Center (MTCC for accustomed people) and the Green Line elevated trains (the chicagoan subway) run north and south through campus, and pass through the Exelon Tube, which is part of the MTCC.

Inside the MTCC:

The university owns its own safety cars: Chevrolet!

The beach volley field just in front of the MTCC :

The campus is composed of many big green spaces :

This is the Paul V. Galvin Library :

The Crown Hall : a National Historic Landmark containing IIT's College of Architecture

The infinity...

The highest drink ever! (actually, it was just from the highest level from the ground). And this cocktail was pretty good!

Well, what could i say about it except that i would love to go back again and again! And spend hours pressing my face against the window...^^

That was awesome!!!

(i advise you to click on this picture, to see the large-format picture to figure out that this viewpoint was simply awesome! )

The "Bean"

Actually, the real name of this huge metalic "bean" is the Cloud Gate. But this sculpture is nicknamed The Bean because of its legume-like shape.

According to Wikipedia,
it's made up of 168 stainless steel plates welded together, its highly polished exterior has no visible seams.

It is 10 m × 20 m × 13 m, and weights 99.8 tons : big baby!!!

I found an interesting picture of the "bean" before its welds were polished...

... because now, it's almost impossible to see the slightest flaw!
